  • Discover the emerald statue found during renovations, believed to be over 180 years old, which gave the temple its second name, Wat KeoMoni Chort (Emerald).

  • This is Cambodia’s largest museum of cultural history, featuring one of the world’s largest collections of Khmer art and ceramics, as well as Angkorian and pre-Angkorian artifacts excavated from the Angkor Temple complex and other regions in Cambodia.

  • Return to the ship and enjoy a free afternoon in Phnom Penh.

Evening

  • Pre-dinner cultural entertainment on the Sun Deck.
  • Enjoy a performance by local children showcasing Apsara, the Khmer national dance, along with other traditional folk dances.

Day 5: Day to relax & enjoy the ship/ border crossing

Morning

  • Depart from Phnom Penh and sail downstream towards the Cambodia-Vietnam border.
  • Enjoy a leisurely cruise along the Mekong River, taking in the scenic views.

Onboard Activities

  • Participate in several cultural activities planned for the morning:
    • Introduction to tropical fruits with a tasting session.
    • Demonstration of Vietnamese spring roll making.
    • Presentation on traditional Cambodian costumes.

Evening

  • Before dinner, join the Captain for a cocktail and sabering time, adding a festive touch to your evening.

Day 6: Long Khanh A Island – My An Hung

Morning

  • Board sampans for a visit to the local island village of Long Khanh A (Hong Ngu district), located near the Vietnam-Cambodia border.
    • Discover how Hong Ngu produces a large number of traditional Khmer scarves that are exported to Cambodia.
    • Visit several homes to see the weaving process and meet villagers who are also embroidery artists, displaying their work.
    • The locals, who had only encountered one Western visitor prior to the arrival of the Mekong Navigator, are especially friendly and welcoming.
    • Before returning to the sampans, stroll around the evergreen island and visit the home of a local War Veteran.
  • Enjoy lunch onboard the ship.

Afternoon

  • After lunch, take a short journey from the ship to shore by sampan, landing in the charming evergreen village of My An Hung.
    • Walk through the verdant village, interacting with the locals and enjoying fresh coconut in the garden.
    • A local family will invite you for honey tea and fruit while you listen to “don ca tai tu” folk music.
    • Experience an impressive VOVINAM Vietnam Martial Arts performance by the village teenagers.

Day 7: Sa Dec – Cai Be – My Tho

Morning

  • Upon arrival in Sa Dec, board your sampans for a leisurely and scenic navigation of the narrow canals of the Mekong.
    • Observe the daily routines of the villagers en route to the historic town of Sa Dec.
  • In Sa Dec, visit the home of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, the inspiration for Marguerite Duras’ novel L’Amant (The Lover).
  • Explore the Chinese Temple, Kien An Cung, built in honor of the Huynh Thuy Le Family.
  • Take a walk through the town’s market, experiencing the vibrant sights, sounds, and smells, with wonderful photo opportunities of colorful fresh produce, meat, live fish, and seafood for sale.

Afternoon

  • Travel to Cai Be and board a rowing boat with rowers in conical hats for an enjoyable excursion along the lovely canals of the Mekong Delta.
  • After rowing, the sampan will cruise through a tapestry of waterways to a cottage factory where artisans produce rice paper, rice wine, and popped rice.
    • Browse a selection of postcards, souvenirs, and beautiful oil paintings on sale.
  • Continue into the long and narrow canals of Cai Be towards Cau Xeo, capturing many photo opportunities of rice barges, rice husking mills, water palm thatching cottages, and temples along the way.

Evening

  • Return to the ship to refresh and enjoy a sunset cruise towards My Tho Marina.
  • Gather on the Sun Deck in front of the Le Salon Lounge for a Farewell Reception with the entire crew.
  • Enjoy a Vietnamese Farewell Dinner in the Le March Dining Room.

Day 8: Disembarkation

  • Following breakfast, you say goodbye to the crew as you disembark the cruise ship and transfer to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
